Top 10 Movies of 2009 (so far), also...
Saturday, September 26, 2009, 9:34 PM
ok so we're nearing the end of the year and so far, this year movies have proven to be quite excellent...nearly as good as last year. So here are my top ten movies so far:
10. Angels and Demons
I liked this better than The Da Vinci Code. Had more of a believable air to it.
9. Valkyrie
Pretty good for a movie with Tom Cruise in it. Well structured and historically accurate, this captured my attention as a History buff.
8. 17 Again
I really liked seeing the Zefron step out of that Disney shell to show his acting chops. The movie itself was funny and very well executed and written despite the tired concept.
7. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Excellently executed, touching and curious (;]) this movie tugged at my heartstrings. Who knew Brad Pitt had it in him to portray such a character as developed and complex as Benjamin. Props to the make-up team, the writing team and Cate Blanchett, as well as the director David Fincher.
6. Terminator Salvation
doodoo doo doodoo, doodoo doo doodoo. I loved this movie. Maybe I'm biased cos i also love Christian Bale but this really lived up to the expectations. It wasn't expected to be as thought out or as complex as the first two (let's not even TALK about the third one) and it did well to revive the series for me. And you know what? I didn't miss Arnie.
5. The Ugly Truth
you know, not many people like Katherine Heigl or Gerard Butler, but I find them both funny and refreshing. What I liked about this was that it was both a guy's and a girl's movie, not the extremity of one or the other.
4. Bolt
I'm really proud of Disney on this one. They really went back to their roots, despite this being computer animated. Loved the 3D, loved the voice acting, LOVED the hamster. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
3. The Hangover
A REAL COMEDY!! AT LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST!! this was just one of the BEST movies I have seen in a long time. I couldn't stop laughing. The jokes weren't too dirty and the acting was excellent. These guys really brought out their characters, especially Zach Galifianakis as Alan "Fat Jesus" Garner.
2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
This movie really brought me back into the HP craze. It was just SO GOOD! The acting, the cinematography, the scenery, the script, the STORY! I was one of the best adaptions in the whole series. Love stories didn't quite do it for me though.
1. Star Trek
nothing will ever top the awesomeness that is this movie. Period. Oh and I love Spock xD
so there you have it, my top ten so far. I suspect Avatar shall be awesome...
but now i must study...exams are coming up and I've been lazy. Till next time.

I actually have not seen a movie in about three weeks....that makes me sad ='[.
BUT I did catch two of those movies I wanted to see.
So here they are:
- Bruno- Why Sacha Baron Cohen WHY?!?! I was so disappointed by this poor movie. Yes, I got the satire and the message but NO LAUGHS!! It was even more disgusting than Borat in certain scenes and I just couldn't look at the screen without throwing up. What it DID do is expose the ridiculous anti-homosexuality that exists in the world but sometimes Bruno just went too far. Plus, it was painfully obvious that a lot of the "unsuspecting victims" were in on the joke and that dampened it's appeal. 3/10
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince- Despite everything that's been going around between "purists" (that is, people who believe that movies adapted from novels should stay true to EVERY MINUTE DETAIL) I really liked this movie. I saw it on it's opening night and the cinema was packed which is something that I always like. I even sat in the very front row....THAT is how desperately I wanted to see this movie. Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is perhaps the film's most appealing trait. You never really get to see Felton, who's been acting since he was in diapers apparently, let loose his acting chops and steal the screen in the other five movies but in this one, boy does he take Dan Rad and Grint's acting wigs and mop the FLOOR with them. Emma Watson was only slightly better in this movie, at least she didn't hyperventilate half as much. Jim Broadbent as Professor Slughorn was good as usual and Gambon FINALLY NAILED IT as Dumbledore...just as the character has to *beep* (c'mon...you know what happens ;]). Props to Dan Rad's acting whilst Harry is under the influence of "Felix Felicis" that was actually really funny. Also, I didn't know that Dame Maggie Smith was receiving treatment for breast cancer at the same time she was filming this movie and that just goes to show how amazing she really is. Get Well Soon Maggie =]. Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley pissed me off. I'm not Ginny's biggest fan but she DID have a bit more fervour in her than this drivel Wright drooled out. The fact that her voice was deeper than Harry's also bothered me. Helena Bonham Carter was fantastic as usual. No appearance of Raph Fiennes as Voldemort in this one but Alan Rickman (Snape) fills the void of evil-son-of-a-bitch enough for this movie. Jessie Cave as Lavender was so over-the-top she was perfect and the always perfect and loveable Evanna Lynch was perfect and loveable as Luna Lovegood. The films biggest flaws were the amount of time spent on the romantic spectre on the novel and the lack of time spent on the battle scene which was extremely anti-climactic and disappointing. However, when Dumbledore *beep* I cried so hard the guy next to me gave me a funyn look. The "purists" need to remember that the movies are not made for them and them only, this was a great movie, one of the best of the series so far. 7.5/10
So there you have it =]
Coming up for me:
- Drag Me to Hell- This has been out for a while and I wanna see it SO BADLY!!
- Orphan- Hollywood's been spitting out some pretty satisfactory horror movies this year (NOT counting Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine 3D)
- The Ugly Truth- What can I say? I sorta have a soft spot for movies like this =]
- Public Enemies- Heard mixed comments about this...but Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in ONE MOVIE?!?!? SIGN ME UP!!
- Inglorious Basterds- Nazis and Brad Pitt? should be quite interesting.
- Capitalism: A Love Story- Michael Moore goes and does it again. Bless him.
- Cloudy, With a Chance of Meatballs- Eagerly awaiting this xD -teehee-
- Jennifer's Body- I think I can stand Megan Fox for this one.
- Fame- I WANNA LIVE FOREVER! I WANNA LEARN HOW TO FLY...HIGH!!!!
- Disney's A Christmas Carol- Let's hope Disney doesn't fuck this up for me
- 2012- OoOoOoOo Judgement Day/Apocalypse/End of the world story....a guilty pleasure
- The Princess and the Frog- Is anybody else excited that there is FINALLY A BLACK ANIMATED DISNEY LEAD/PRINCESS?!? and also that this is a CARTOON!!?!?!?
- Sherlock Holmes- Good work Guy Ritchie (y) *mutters* for once.
- Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland- There can be no wrong if Tim Burton is directing.
- Nightmare on Elm Street- WOO FOR A REMAKE THAT ACTUALLY LOOKS GOOD! Please don't stuff this up!
- Iron Man 2- Promo pics look awesome!! I just love superheroes xD
- Shrek Forever After- Despite them stuffing up the third one...I still love Shrek.
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time- Come on...who DIDN'T play this game when it was still pixelated and only on computer? eh? eh?
- Kung Fu Kid- this is supposed to be kind of like a Karate Kid remake but with Jackie Chan, Will Smith's son, Jayden, and KUNG FU instead of KARATE. should be cool though =]
- Toy Story 3- COME ON! It's TOY STORY!!!!!!
- The Last Airbender- I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the cartoon this is based off of!!! DON'T MESS IT UP M. NYGHT OR I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND MAKE YOU EAT ALL YOUR PREVIOUS MOVIES WITHOUT BLENDING THEM!!!! Trailer looks good though =]
- Priest- WOO vampire movie that DOESN'T suck >.>
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1- SO. FREAKING. EXCITED. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH kinda late next year though lmao xD
- The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Trader- YAY BEN BARNES! oh yeah and yay it's a timeless children's classic novel.
- 21 Jump Street Movie- hehehe.
- Anchorman 2- YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
- Spider Man 4 (this is going into 2011 guys haha)- Even though the third one SUCKED MAJOR i still wanna see this
- The Hangover 2- YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
- Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom- one word: skadoosh.
- Transformers 3- Yeah I'll see it...why not?
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2- It makes me sad to think that, after this movie, that'll be it for the Harry Potter series...and probably a lot of the child actors as well...yikes.
- I Am Legend 2- the only problem with this that i have is that...he died...didn't he?
- Pirates of the Caribbean 4- FUCK. YES.
- Terminator 5- i hope this isn't too brainless though.
So there you have THAT!
Went a bit far into the future with that xD
BUT I WILL STAY TRUE AND WATCH ALL OF THESE I PROMISE!!!
Castiel = <333

is it like...wrong to think that an angel is sexy?
cos ya know...he totally is ;]
i wouldn't mind breaking off a piece of THAT! I'd gladly die and go to heaven just to see him *blissful sigh*
what a stunner Misha Collins (the actor) is. Seriously that is one fine specimen of a man. I think it's cos he's kinda dorky xD
and his eyes. His beautiful, blue eyes. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm26842624/nm0172557
SERIOUSLY WHO CANNOT THINK THAT MAN IS SEXY!!?!?!?!?
to not think so is to go against nature.
AND NOBODY WANTS TO GO AGAINST NATURE!!!
do they? ==
DAMN.
xD
oh and school's back on....drainer.

, 9:29 AM
So, I was reading my old post and I realised that the last movie I reviews was 17 Again.... needless to say i've seen QUITE A FEW movies since then....
quite a few.
So i will spend the next....hour i suppose...of my life reviewing because I CAN'T FUCKING GET TO SLEEP!!
Kay:
- X-men Origins: Wolverine: I am SEVERELY disappointed in this movie. Cliche up the wazhoo, corny dialogue, mediocre plot...to tell you the truth not even the ACTION SCENES thrilled me. I LOVE XMEN, and therein lies my problem. THIS? Yeah, it was NOT X-MEN. Every single power displayed in this movie was boring as chicken shit. I can't believe how disappointed I was!! I STILL AM!! *sigh* Guess I'll have to wait for the Magneto one. Bound to be cooler. 4/10
- Angels and Demons: Pretty darn good. I liked it a whole lot better than the Da Vinci Code just like how I preferred this book over Da Vinci Code. A lot more structured and interesting, I didn't think this one as much of a fairy tale as I did the other one. Everything here seemed completely plausible and quite terrifying. Of course it didn't hurt it's chances with me that Ewan McGregor was one of the starts xD. i LOVE that guy. 7/10
- Star Trek (2009): ABSOLUTELY. FREAKING. AWESOME. This was just...i can't even....there are no words....it was, I dare say, NEARLY just as good as the Dark Knight....SO CLOSE!! When I saw the trailer for this...I just knew I'd like it....BUT NOT AS MUCH AS THIS!! Seriously I am FREAKING OUT over how good a movie this was. I am also officially in love with Anton Yelchin (Checkov) and Zachary Quinto (Spock). wow. 9.5/10
- Night at the Museum 2: Battle for the Smithsonian: Meh. Not bad. A few laughs here and there. Good for an inappropriate giggle with a friend you feel comfortable around. Also good if you wanna feel immature for a while...but other than that it's what you'd expect. Not as good as the first one but not totally bad. 5/10
- Terminator: Salvation: AWESOME. Not as good as Star Trek as it didn't have much of a plot but at least what little plot it did have was easy to follow and simple. The effects were fantastic and the acting was just suberb. Once again one of my favourite actors Christian Bale (<33)>
- The Hangover: SO GOOD. Incredibly funny. Yes, crude in parts but I could forget those and focus on the aray of HILARIOUS scenes that litter this movie. I really didn't expect it to be this good. I'm really glad that, despite some downfalls, 2009 is starting to look like a REALLY GOOD YEAR for movies of all kinds! Make sure to catch this one guys =] 7/10
- Year One: Please do not even bother with this movie. 1/10
- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: As far as plot goes, don't hope for much. It's all over the place and messy, as if Michael Bay lost his mind or something during filming...it started out simple enough...but then all these other characters got involved and half way through the movie you're left wondering what the hell is going on. Props to the effects guys and if you're looking for a thrill with your mates it's a good movie to watch...worth seeing for that reason. Definitely not as well thought out or executed as the first one and I still have yet to see Megan Fox do anything productive. 5/10
- The Proposal: A well-rounded, classic-style chick flick. It's intelligent and witty but not too complicated. So, ok you can pretty much guess what's going to happen when you see the trailers but that doesn't make it any less of a guilty pleasure for you and your gal pals =D. 6.5/10
- Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: I got dragged to see this movie against my own will. I'll say it right now. I don't like Ice Age enough to want to pay $14 to see the THIRD SEQUEL!! It's a kid's movie. Plain and simple. Boring and full of the joke's these things have been vomiting out for years and years in both Movies and TV shows. A couple of mocking laughs here and there but it made me want to walk out of the cinema and into another movie...any other movie. It wasn't even a movie that let me revisit my immaturity...it didn't really do anything for me. I'm FUCKING SICK OF SCRAT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET HIS STUPID NUT/ACORN WHATEVER IT IS!! 4/10
So that's it...for now...
Upcoming Movies on my list;;
- Bruno looks fucking hilarious
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince- these movies just seem to get better and better...can't wait for this next installment in this beloved series. Looks truly epic.
-Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs- This looks a whole lot like Bolt and a whole less than Ice Age...which is GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME...seriously though it looks good.
Movies I have NO PLANS TO SEE;;
-Coraline- I loved the Nightmare Before Christmas but this just looks creepy and disturbing...and pointless
-Up- I KNOW that it's been well reviewed and it does seem like it's got an awesome message....but I don't wanna see it!
-Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squequel- GOD NO!! i had to take my little sister to the first one...NEVER AGAIN!!
-Hannah Montana the Movie- The show's ok but I really can't sit through an hour and a half of Miley Cyrus and her bad acting.
-The Twilight Saga: New Moon- Although i probably will, seeing as I'm a curious bitch. DAMMIT.
that's all folks!!
3.32am...wow i should sleep....
